"Yoga Face Selfies are not about self-improvement, they are about self acceptance" - Inspirational Quote of the Day

Image
"Yoga Face Selfies are not about self-improvement, they are about self acceptance." https://www.instagram.com/p/BSOsOz2gY-l/?taken-by=yogafaceselfie - Inspired by a quote from Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa,"Yoga is not about self-improvement, it's about self acceptance."

"Your Beliefs Don't Make You a Better Person, Yoga Face Does." - Inspired by a Sukhraj S. Dillon Quote

Image
"Your beliefs don't make you a better person, yoga face does." was inspired by a quote by Sukhraj S. Dillon, "Your beliefs don't make you a better person, your behaviour does." I love how by switching words contained in inspirational quotes and completely transform the meaning and, if you're lucky, will also give you a better understanding of how the quote works. This one, for example, is largely based on confirmation bias. When confirmation bias is in effect, we will assume that other people will have the same concept of what behaviour will make you a "better" person. Culture to culture that idea of actions or behaviours that will make you a "better" person will shift. If you replace the word "behaviour" with a specific action, you will undoubtable lose a portion of your audience that feel the action your have described does not actually make you a better person. This is interesting stuff, I think.

Finding the Visionary Yogi in John Candy

Image
Ever seen the movie Delirious , starring John Candy? Well, up until recently neither had I. And, if I’m being completely honest, I still haven’t.  But you know what I have seen? The trailer. And I’ve embedded it below so you can see it as well. From what I’ve been able to gather scanning the trailer and the first few Google search results, the movie has something to do with a soap writer (played, I think, by Candy) who gets hit on the head and wakes up as a character in his own show, allowing him to manipulate characters….making people fall in love with him, fall out of love with each other, etc. The films was a commercial and critical failure…..but the public and critics sadly don’t know the meaning of namaste….and profundity of this brilliant piece of work is lost on them. Sadly, this work has aged better than those pretentious newspaper mouth-breathers could ever have hoped to. They are so far from Samadhi (the state of complete Self-actualization for you non-Yog...

It's inspiring to see how our guru's quotes have inspired other inspirational speakers!

Image
I was just on the Cool People Doing Cool Things Instagram account and stumbled across the saying "It's amazing what you can do when you're determined and have no money" by Shannon from Retro Sweat. I'm always on  Instagram , and I'm always honoured by how many other inspirational speakers are able to use the words of our guru to inspire whatever passion burns inside them. In fact, our guru often says "It's amazing the Yoga Face Selfies you can do when you're determined and have no money", which I expect may have been the inspirational quote that helped Shannon fashion her own. This quote by our guru is in answer to the question people often ask us about Yoga Face Selfie, "what are the barriers to entry?" The true answer is "none". Yes, a couple of our mantras are "If you don't record it, it didn't happen..." and "If you don't snap it. You didn't do it...", but in reality a tru...

Yoga Face Selfie Teaching Philosophies in Comparison with More Conventional Approaches to Learning

Image
In many Western Teaching Practices, fact regurgitation is the name of the game. This is not the case with the Yoga Face Selfie 2.0 techniques as practiced in modern day Canada. While working to have a face resembling anothers is a good way to start any session, the true celebration of self-realization (or self-actualization, if you prefer) is a face yogi who is able to express themselves in ways that no one can imitate.  We celebrate deviations from the normal expressions exemplified by the masses (aka Duckface) in the belief that only by deviating can one find new sources of inspiration for oneself.  Stay tuned to this blog and all our other social media platforms for more inspirational quotes from our guru! Face Yoga Popeye Pose - The Yoga Face Selfie Technique

Image
The Popeye Pose. The true art to this pose is being able to isolate and control the muscles in each cheek individually. The cheek with the pipe (or paint brush, or pencil, or whatever you have on hand) must be relaxed while the lips and teeth hold the pipe in place. The opposite cheek must be constructed into a smile while also resisting the force of the air being used to puff out the opposing cheek. Then you h ave to isolate the eye muscles so that the eye on the puffed cheek side is stretched as wide as it can go while the opposite eye is squinting. The selfie must be taken with the arm farthest from the wide open eye on a 3/4 degree angle. Namaste.  #selfie #popeye #cartoonface #notaseasyasyouwouldthink #selfieofday #selfienation #instaselfie #selfietime #selfiebot #selfieking #artist #satire #canadian #american#newyork #losangeles #toronto #stthomas #yoga #yogaface#yogafaceselfie #yogafacetagram #yogapose #yogaposer #yogaselfie  #yogi #yogini #igyoga #yogalove #yogae...

VIDEO - Face Yoga Warrior Pose by "Yoga Face Selfie"

Image
Welcome back to another episode of Yoga Face Selfie, where I help you to start taking your selfies to the next level.   Today’s pose of the day is called “Warrior”. It was inspired by the film of the same name. It requires an intense stare combined with a moderately slack jaw.  Now, if your selfie, like mine, isn’t exactly where you want to be, just use some photoshop magic to give it the proper look. Today I’ll be sharing with you a little segment of how I take my sefies from owe to wow.  Some people ask me, why are you focused on introducing the world to Selfie 2.0 when there are so many social justice issues that need addressing? My answer? I am, just think, if everyone was so focused on their selfies, there would be no time to plot global domination! There would be no more wars. There would be no more terrorists. It’s not only me that thinks this either, for example, just look at Canada’s Justin Trudeau, he’s actually putting my Yoga Face Selfie 2...

VIDEO - Face Yoga Morning Stretch by "Yoga Face Selfie"

Image
Yoga Face: it’s yoga, fo’your Face - #YogaFaceSelfie This is a quick (under 15 second) morning exercise. I call it the asymmetrical face stretch. Start with one eyebrow and then bring the other up to match it. Then bring them down and repeat as many times as feels comfortable for you. You can also open your mouth wide during the stretch - but only if it feels comfortable to your practice. If you look like this - then you know you are ding this exercise correctly If you feel you don’t have the 15 seconds required for this, you should maybe question the life choices that led to such a abysmal lack of time for personal growth in your life. Also, remember, if you don’t document it, it didn’t happen. Prove you’re making the right life choices by posting with the hashtag #YOGAFACEtagram - so we know that you know, you’re making the right choices. *By doing these exercises every day you will become the most empowered, loving, and balanced version of yourself and hopefully by d...
